James K. Polk State Historic Site Neighbor Scott Warren works at the James K. Polk State Historic Site, the only presidential site in North Carolina and the boyhood home of our 11th president. Free tours. Open Tues-Sat 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. (closed Sun & Mon). The Polk site could CLOSE in July if the proposed state budget goes through. A special Facebook page has been created to rally all history lovers to urge lawmakers to restore funding to North Carolina Historic Sites.
